Greetings from San Francisco Bay! This week’s blog is coming to you from Alcatraz Island, to be exact, which was once home to some of the most notorious criminals in American history, including Al Capone. Not exactly where you thought I might film my next blog, right? 🙂
While on a northern California adventure with my family, I thought “the Rock” would serve as a perfect venue for my latest video. Believe or not, we as entrepreneurs and business owners have one big thing in common with the prison’s former inhabitants:
We all truly value our freedom.
In fact, many of us go into business for ourselves because we wanted to experience a greater degree of autonomy. But every now and then, instead of freeing you, your business has you feeling like you’re stuck in chains.
If that’s the case, this video is for you. 🙂 I’ll share three rituals to help you get more out of your daily business routine, and break free of the habits that may not be serving you.

Hey Pam,
Wow! It is incongruous for you to extol the benefits of freedom in your business while at the same time creating a video for your business while you ate on vacation! If you were in integrity and truly “valued your freedom” you would have the presence of mind to have your vacation without any interruption to market your business. Please think what meta-message you are giving your sons to see their mother shoot a work video during vacation.
I guess you are teaching what you need to learn. Please be a role model that walks the talk
Thanks for listening and reflecting,
Lee

That’s the beauty of running an online business. You can handle things from anywhere even while on vacation. Good for you Pam! I love your blog and your information. It’s a shame that there will always be someone out there that bashes instead of appreciating the fact that you took time out of your family vacation to keep feeding your readers with quality information.

Hey Lee, Thanks for sharing – I appreciate your honesty! For me, I love what I do and it isn’t “work” to me to record videos – my team and I actually had a plan to release a different video while I was gone (so that I had the choice of not doing anything) but had the idea to do the Alcatraz one while we were there so we did it. The kids really enjoyed being part of the experience and I love that they know their mom and dad love their work and what we do. It was really hard for me when I became a new mom dealing with my feelings around work and family but I’m really proud today of the balance we have. It may not be right for other families – it’s right for us. I know I still have A TON to learn and my belief today is that we all have to come to grips with what’s right for each of us in our unique situations. What’s most important to me is to embrace the choices we make. Thanks again for your post – dialogue is an important part of growth and I appreciate the opportunity to have thought about this. Warmly, Pam

Excellent and very creative! I love the location and relationship to the prison. Doing this on your family vacation is VERY creative and well done. It only took less than 4 minutes out of your time and you were still with your family. You obviously love your work and you know how to balance your life, family and work. It is important to show and share with your family and sons how you are able to balance. This gives your sons and all of us a good understanding of the work ethics. Keep up the great sharing the important ways to grow our business by working “smarter, not harder” as we all balance our life. Debbie
