I consider myself a planning FREAK. This extends to both my work and home lives—trips for the kids, holidays and more.
This fervor really manifests itself when I am sitting down to plan my content delivery. Over the years I’ve honed my systems for preparing for what I like to call my BIG THREE, and I’m sharing those with you today so you can deliver massive value to your own audiences, every time. I want you to set yourself up so when the time comes you don’t even have to think about your performance. It just flows.
In the comments below let me know your own rituals for preparation, and how you create your own systems to get a great result every time.

Thank you Pam for sharing excellent points on preparation. Coach Wooden was and is such a great teacher. The “Success Pyramid” hangs in my office, near my phone. While on the phone (or Skype) the poster is in my line of vision. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve found solutions to issues that arise on the calls, by studying the Pyramid. Here’s the copy I use: http://www.coachwooden.com/files/PyramidThinkingSuccess.jpg
I’ve also handed out hundreds of copies of the Pyramid to small groups I meet with or speak to. I think it is that valuable. Thanks for highlighting this great resource.
Can you recommend a teleprompter?
Thanks again.

Margy,
Thanks for your reply! For prompter here are 3 options: (1) ipad and app: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/teleprompter-pro-lite/id578104295?mt=8 (2) Prompter People 17 inch with Promptdog software (this is what I use) and (3) if you want to get fancy, politicians use this one: http://www.prompterpeople.com/stage-speech/
Love that you have the Pyramid on your wall – you have an older version without all the Mortar in around the sides so it was interesting to see the evolution. We’ve been interviewing lots of leaders, business people, celebrities, sportscasters, former players, etc. and every single one of them talks about the impact the Pyramid has had (and still has) on them. I agree the Pyramid is that valuable. I’m realizing you can take any one of the blocks and work on just that one for several weeks as there’s so much depth to it.
Thanks again for your share!

Pam,
You knocked this one out of the park…great Blog post.
I happen to think John Wooden was one of the greatest teachers and coaches we have ever known.
Such a quiet man with huge principles and integrity that never faltered.
Hope you will be able to weave into your story- his personal life and relationships
with his family and his players. I’m a bit partial since “early on” he was a high school coach
here in Indiana as well as coach for Purdue… a great human being…thanks for tackling this project. I am sure it will be life changing for you.

Thanks Diana, it’s been amazing and transformational getting to work on the Wooden course. I have never seen someone have such an impact on people for so many years. As we’re interviewing leaders, students, people he impacted most, every single one of them gets choked up when talking about him. We got to meet the family this week – of course, they baked cake and cookies for us even though we were there to support them – the core values, integrity and caring for people is unsurpassed in his entire family. Yes, we’re going to focus on his personal life too as his ability to “walk the talk” is something we can all learn from. Great that you are in Indiana – of course, that’s a big part of the story, too. I agree 100% with your beliefs about Coach! I’ll keep you posted and if you think of anything that can help the course to extend his impact even further, please let me know! 🙂

Thanks Pam, with a very busy life I tend to unknowingly overlook planning or cut corners during the preparation phase (opposite side of perfection) and needed the reminder to practice, practice and practice again.

Thank you Pam. Very helpful blog post. I loved reading that you prepare and plan a lot too. Sometimes, I feel like I am taking too long in these phases but I do take this time to make it simpler then for my clients. So it felt really good to hear you say that this is a good thing and remind me that Tony does as well 😉 Could you please give us an idea of how long it takes you in terms of time spent in preparing and making a blog post ? And same question for a webinar please ? I know we are all different but I would find this info very useful. Also, how do you know when you are preparing and this is the right thing to do and when you fall over into “perfectionnism”. Any thoughts on this Pam ? Thanks 😉

Great job, Pam! One of your best. Loved your thought process behind developing and delivering your different products. Also appreciate the respect you show your audience by being prepared.
Perhaps you could talk a little in the future about the balance point between being prepared and being so compulsive you never get done.
Again, great job!

Always organized, genuine and timely information. I am preparing for a webinar presentation so I am extra excited that you created this training. Also took a peek at a few I missed on this page – not sure how that happened! Great reminder about making sure you have relevant stories to better connect with your audience. I love the research to find little things that no one may realize (i.e. janitor connection) and humor to show you are “real”.
Thank you!!
